RESOURCES FOR SENIORS AND AT-RISK INDIVIDUALS

 

On Sunday, March 15, 2020, Governor Newsom ordered all California residents age 65 and older (or those with underlying health issues like heart and lung disease, asthma, diabetes) to isolate themselves at home. Please refer below for some resources and services designed to make sure you or your loved ones have what you need while staying at home for health reasons. Our office will continue to add to this as cities and organizations expand their capacities.

Governor’s Hotline and 2-1-1 Services
The governor also announced the creation of a statewide hotline for seniors, in coordination with the non-profit local 211 systems, so that residents have a one-stop shop to answer their questions and get assistance during this crisis. To reach the special senior resource hotline, dial (833) 544-2374. For the general local information hub, dial 2-1-1.

County Aging & Independence Services

COUNTY SERVICES
 
Jewish Family Service Meal Delivery - The Loonin Family Kitchen can have a Meals on Wheels or Foodmobile driver deliver directly to your door. This service is also available for adults under 60 years of age with a disability that prevents them from being able to leave the home. Special Senior Hours- The stores listed below will open earlier for seniors before allowing the general public to enter at all if their locations in North County. Some are opening later than their normal hours to allow seniors even more time to shop. A handful may require that shoppers display an ID, so please remember to bring yours to make sure you can get into the store during these hours.

  • Smart & Final: 7:30am-8:00am.
  • Stater Bros Markets: 7:45am -8:00am.
  • Whole Foods: 7:00am-8:00am.
  • Albertsons: 7:00am-9:00am (for all at-risk shoppers).
  • Vons: 7:00am-9:00am (for all at-risk shoppers).
  • Gelson’s Market: 7:00am-8:00 (for seniors 65 and older).
  • Target: First hour each Wednesday for 65+ or other at-risk individuals.
  • Northgate Market: 7:00am-8:00am for seniors 65 and older.
 
CITY OF CARLSBAD SERVICES
 
Meal Pick Up - Carlsbad residents 60 and older can sign up for the city’s lunch program, which provides nutritious meals Monday through Friday that can be picked up curbside and reheated. Reservations must be made no later than 12pm the day before, Monday-Friday. (Monday’s order would need to be placed on Friday by 12pm). Seniors are encouraged to do a drive by pick up if they can between 11 a.m. and noon. Once you arrive, please stay in your car and a city staff member will bring your meal to you. CITY OF ENCINITAS SERVICES

Meal Dine-In - The Encinitas Senior Center is providing lunches for seniors Monday through Friday. The center is located at 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, between Encinitas Blvd. and Balour Drive. Their phone number is (760) 943-2258. Please click here for more information.

Essential Errands- The city also has the Social Bridge program for coordinating deliveries of groceries, medications, or other essentials to your door. If you would like to arrange to have someone run essential errands for you, please call (858) 376-7880 or click here for more information.

Transportation - The "Out and About" Transportation program is coordinating rides for senior residents in Encinitas who need to be driven to a medial appointment. CITY OF OCEANSIDE SERVICES

CITY OF VISTA SERVICES

Meal Delivery & Pick Up - Meals are available for pick-up and delivery at the Gloria McClellan Adult Activity and Resource Center at 1400 Vale Terrace Drive, Vista CA 92084. The Weekend Bag Program deliveries end on October 1, 2021.  The Lunch and Dinner Deliveries and Pickup Program ends on September 29, 2021. Starting October 4, 2021, the Center will begin a dine-in lunch program.
