DEL MAR, CA. — Today, as part of her annual event Environmental Hero Awards, Assemblymember Tasha Boerner (D-Encinitas) recognized local heroes who have dedicated their lives to preserving and protecting our environment for future generations.
“We are so lucky to live in a region so dedicated to conserving our planet. The climate crisis may be a villain in our story, but we have environmental heroes who are taking the challenge head-on in San Diego,” stated Assemblymember Boerner. “These leaders remind us that it takes all of us working together to care for our home. I am so proud of our honorees, and I am happy to share their efforts in our communities to preserve our planet.”
The following individuals received an award at the 2024 Environmental Hero Awards.
- Greening Award: Rob Hutsel from San Diego River Park Foundation;
- Water Award: Melissa Ward from Windward Sciences;
- Air Award: Tara Hammond from Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation;
- Wetlands Award: Phillip Musegaas from San Diego Coastkeeper;
- Environmental Justice Award: Fay Crevoshay from WILDCOAST;
- Unsung Hero Award: Mario Ordoñez-Calderon from Un Mar de Colores;
- Innovation Award: Jason Anderson from Cleantech;
- Rising Star Award: Charlotte Sach from Torrey Pines High School;
- Rising Star Award: Trisha Vasanadu from Canyon Crest Academy; and
- Rising Star Award: Daniel Vinegrad from Coronado High School.
