From Assemblywoman Tasha Boerner

__SALUTATION__

Assemblymember Tasha Boerner My office is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by highlighting AAPI residents in #AD77 for their vast contributions to our community.

It is so important we proudly recognize the generations of Asians and Pacific Islanders who have strengthened California and honor their culture this May.

We must all continue to stand against AAPI hate, which had risen during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you for following along as we share AAPI stories and express our gratitude!

Cheers,

NARAL Pro-Choice America Visits the Capitol

This week, I met with NARAL Pro-Choice America to discuss the need to protect and expand access to reproductive health care services. I am so grateful for the work they do to help secure a woman’s right to make her own health care choices, including abortion. #CALeg

DISTRICT HIGHLIGHTS

AAPI Heritage Month

AAPI Heritage Month

It's #AAPIHeritageMonth and each week I'll be recognizing #AAPI members of our community in #AD77 for their accomplishments! This week, I want to share Diana Wu's story, who discovered taiko in 2006 at my alma mater, UC Berkeley.

Diana wanted to share the many benefits of taiko drumming with her community. Taiko has its roots in community festivals, religious rituals, and traditional folk arts in Japan.

She is a staff member of kaDON, the American subsidiary of Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten, the leading taiko and traditional instrument manufacturer in Japan. Through kaDON, she has organized events and workshops connecting professional taiko artists in Japan with taiko enthusiasts from all over the world.

In 2020, Diana was one of 13 cast members of HERbeat, the world's first all-women taiko artist production featuring the top masters of the craft from both Japan and North America. Diana Wu's biggest dream is to open a full-fledged taiko center here in San Diego so that more people can discover their own inner strength through this instrument.

We are so grateful for her unique contributions to #AD77 which truly strengthen our community.
