__SALUTATION__

Assemblymember Tasha BoernerOctober 23rd - 31st is National Red Ribbon Week, where we focus on educating kids about the consequences of using drugs and encourage them to stay healthy and drug-free.

This year, the California Legislature enacted House Resolution 53 to reaffirm our commitment to keeping our children safe from illegal drugs.

In 2022, #AD77 saw 76 deaths caused by fentanyl overdoses. This week, I encourage you to talk to your loved ones about the harmful impacts of underage drug use, and take the pledge to help keep kids away from drugs.

Cheers,

DISTRICT HIGHLIGHTS

County Behavioral Health Director Association's Strategic Planning Meeting

County Behavioral Health Director Association Strategic Planning Meeting

Earlier today, I attended the County Behavioral Health Director Association's annual strategic planning meeting, held this year right here in #AD77. I joined key leaders in the behavioral health field to discuss key issues facing California as we tackle our behavioral health crisis and rising homelessness.

Leaders from all 58 counties and two cities across California convened in San Diego this week to share updates and ideas about how to build a strong behavioral health safety net during this time of need. I spoke to them about several of the bills I authored to help reduce homelessness and keep vulnerable Californians housed.

Biocom California Elected Officials Reception

Biocom California Elected Officials Reception

This week I attended Biocom California's annual Elected Official Reception to network with leaders in the life science industry and learn more about their work in the industry. This event presents a unique opportunity for members of the life science industry to speak face-to-face with elected leaders and collaboratively form ideas on how to support the industry moving forward in the future.

#AD77 is home to several key leaders in the biotechnology industry, such as Illumina, which is headquartered in San Diego but has locations all across the world.

Brady Campaign's "United Against Gun Violence" Reception

15th Annual La Jolla Art & Wine Festival

I was honored to attend the Brady Campaign's "United Against Gun Violence" reception with Brady President, Kris Brown. The goal of this initiative is to reduce gun violence by 25% by the year 2025 through legislation, litigation, and education.

Gun violence is preventable. I am so grateful for the Brady Campaign's tireless work to keep our communities safe from the threat of gun violence, and I look forward to continuing to work with them for the health and safety of #AD77 and beyond.

#PurpleThursday for Domestic Violence Awareness
