__SALUTATION__

Assemblymember Tasha BoernerMany residents have contacted my office to express their concerns with a law passed in 2022 that authorizes the California Public Utilities Commission to implement income-based fixed rates for utility customers.

I share these concerns with residents, as do many of my colleagues, which is why I signed on as a coauthor of AB 1999 by Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, which seeks to reconsider the proposed rate changes and allow ratepayers a chance to give the CPUC their feedback on a proposed income-based fee.

I want to thank the residents of #AD77 who shared their feedback with my office, and assure you that I will continue to advocate for ratepayers to have their voices heard on decisions that will affect them.

Cheers,

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

James Crawford

Black History Month - James Crawford

This week of Black History Month, I would like to highlight James Crawford, a Ph.D. student in Education Studies at UCSD. James has over ten years of experience in education consulting and restorative practices, and maintains a central focus on raising up the perspectives of racially and socioeconomically diverse student groups. He has published research in fields including critical race methodologies, Black critical theory, and how partnerships between schools and the communities they serve can mitigate anti-Blackness. He was recently named Mentor of the Year by The Blue Heart Foundation, a San Diego nonprofit focused on providing positive mentorship to under-served African American male youth between ages 13 and 19. Thank you James for your dedication to giving back to the community!

DISTRICT HIGHLIGHTS

E-Bike Safety Press Conference

E-Bike Safety Press Conference

Last Friday, I announced the introduction of my Assembly Bill 2234, which will increase e-bike safety, especially for young riders, on our shared roads. E-bikes provide a sense of freedom that many school-aged Californians are looking for, but it is crucial that we also ensure our children are able to make safe decisions when on an e-bike that can reach nearly 30 miles per hour.

I am so thankful for the outpouring of support I've received - both in and outside of my district - for this legislation. E-bike safety impacts all of us, and it's great to see all our community leaders joining me in supporting this bill. I will continue to advocate for children's safety as this bill moves through the legislative process.

San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce's 153rd Anniversary Celebration

Encinitas Chamber of Commerce Rising Star Breakfast

Last Thursday, I was honored to attend the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce's 153rd Anniversary Celebration. I am thankful for everything the Chamber does to support our local economy and the San Diego community.

I also want to congratulate the evening's two award recipients, Helen Robbins-Meyer, the Chief Administrative Officer at the County of San Diego, and Dexcom for all that they have done for San Diego. We also celebrated the Chamber's new Board Chair Alessandra Lezama and her leadership.
