Legislative Renter's Caucus State of the Union
This week, the Legislative Renter's Caucus held our first ever Renters State of the Union to discuss the current state of affairs for renters in California. Only five legislators across the entire State Senate and Assembly are renters, and we are committed to advocating for policies that meet the needs of renters statewide. #CALeg
Proposed Plastic Bag Ban
Today I joined my colleagues Senators Blakespear and Allen to announce legislation to ban the use of plastic bags in grocery stores and retail food vendors. Plastic bags are difficult to recycle and release toxic contaminants into our water, soil, and wildlife when they eventually break down. I am grateful for the leadership of my colleagues and I look forward to continuing to support this effort to protect California's environment and its residents. #CALeg
Select Committee on the Social Determinants of Health
Last week I joined my colleague Dr. Akilah Weber for a meeting of the Select Committee on the Social Determinants of Health to examine how environmental factors affect individual and community health.
This topic is extremely relevant in #AD77, which includes the water all the way down to the Mexican border, where we are seeing high levels of toxic untreated sewage spilling into our ocean and becoming aerosolized into the air we breathe. I was honored to advocate for the residents of my district in our fight to address this ongoing crisis, and to hear from experts on the issue.

Congratulations to this month's Rising Stars Sheila Menon, Cordi Henigan, Lochland McStravick, Ginger Sage, and Maya Alam!
