__SALUTATION__
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and for individuals with severe mental health conditions, the only option to treat these disorders is through medication.
I authored House Resolution 88 this year to commemorate May 5th-11th as Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) Awareness Week. TD is a neurological disorder that affects people who are taking medication for mental health issues. It causes involuntary movements in the face, tongue, and limbs and can significantly impact a person's quality of life. About 600,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with TD, and an estimated 70% of people with the disorder remain undiagnosed.
Let's work to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health. San Diego County provides a list of mental health programs. For more information on TD, please visit TalkAboutTD.com.
Cheers,
Assemblymember Tasha Boerner

P.S. My office is available every day to talk with you about your concerns or help connect you with resources. You can reach us at (858) 481-7704 or Assemblymember.Boerner@assembly.ca.gov.
Mothers make the world go round. We sacrifice everything to make sure our children are happy. It is not an easy job, but it is one of the most rewarding. To all of our mothers, I hope you are appreciated. You are our superheroes! Happy Mother's Day to all of our mothers in #AD77!
ASIAN AMERICAN & PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH SPOTLIGHT |
Tuyen Nguyen
My next Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month honoree is Tuyen Nguyen! She is the Stop the Hate Program Director for Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties.
Her position was possible when the San Diego API Coalition, who is a current grantee, received $13 million to support over 27 community-based organizations in the regions to combat the rise of anti-Asian hate.
Thank you for working hard to create long-term change in our county!
NATIONAL TEACHERS' DAY SPOTLIGHT |
Brooke Klein
It is National Teacher Appreciation Week, and for National Teachers' Day, I want to give a special shout-out to Encinitas Union School District Teacher Brooke Klein!
Some teachers teach because they desire to do good in public service, but Brooke teaches because she feels called to do it. Her spirit and energy are captured by the enthusiasm of her students.
Our teachers work hard to educate and uplift all of our children. Thank you to all of our teachers in #AD77!
NATIONAL SMALL BUSINESS DAY SPOTLIGHT |
Olavida
For National Small Business Day, I want to recognize Olavida Mezcal. The business was founded by Encinitas local woman, mother, and Dual Language Immersion teacher, Caela Workman. Since she was a little girl, Caela fell in love with the ocean and enjoyed traveling to Mexico and immersing herself in the culture. After ten years of teaching, she yearned for something new and different and decided to create her own Mezcal. Olavida Mezcal is now available at many restaurants in North County, and they plan to expand! As Olavida grows, she plans to keep giving back to education.
