June is Pride Month — a time to celebrate love, authenticity, and the incredible contributions of our LGBTQ+ community. As your Assemblymember, I'm committed to standing up for equality and making sure California remains a place where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported. While we've made great strides, our work isn't done — especially as rights are challenged across the country. Let's continue to uplift LGBTQ+ voices and fight for a more inclusive future together. Happy Pride!
Cheers,

Assemblymember Tasha Boerner
Assemblymember, 77th District

Affordable Home Internet

Broadband isn't a luxury — it's a necessity. Whether you live in a rural town or a busy city, affordable internet access opens doors for students submitting homework, families attending telehealth appointments, and job seekers applying online.
I'm proud that my bill, AB 353, to make home internet more affordable for Californians, passed the Assembly with strong support. Thank you to my colleagues who voted to ensure that all Californians, no matter their ZIP code, can stay connected.
California is One Step Closer to Banning Plastic Microbeads

California is one step closer to passing legislation that would protect Californians from toxic microbeads!
This bill would ban the sale of non-rinse-off personal care products and cleaning products containing plastic microbeads used as an abrasive to clean, exfoliate, or polish by January 1, 2029.
AB 823 would also ban the sale of personal care products containing plastic glitter by January 1, 2030.
Thank you so much to our sponsors 5 Gyres, Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, Californians Against Waste, & Clean Water Action California.
Legislative Update

I am happy to report that these bills are moving forward in the legislative process!
AB 86 — Health Education Instructional Materials: This bill would standardize health education for grades K-8 by requiring the State Board of Education to adopt instructional materials for health education.
AB 353 – Affordable Home Internet: This bill would require internet service providers operating in California to offer affordable home internet to eligible households.
AB 399 — Blue Carbon Projects in Coastal Developments: This bill would authorize the California Coastal Commission to add blue carbon projects to the list of potential mitigation measures when approving coastal development permits. Blue carbon projects capture carbon emissions and reduce pollution.
AB 705 — CPUC Inspector General: This bill would establish an Inspector General and the Independent Office of Audits and Investigations to provide transparency and accountability into the CPUC's internal operations and management.
AB 823 — Protecting Californians from Toxic Microbeads: This bill would ban the sale of non-rinse-off personal care products and cleaning products containing plastic microbeads used as an abrasive to clean, exfoliate, or polish by January 1, 2029. This bill would also ban the sale of personal care products containing plastic glitter by January 1, 2030.
AB 968 — Protecting Access to Non-Hormonal Birth Control: This bill would allow pharmacists to prescribe self-administered FDA-approved non-hormonal contraception.
AB 1017 — Reporting Gas & Electric Distribution Capacities: This bill would ensure that electricity and gas rates are set by a more transparent process. This bill would require gas and electric companies to include their distribution capacity in their annual reports to the CPUC.
Aviara Oaks Elementary in Sacramento

It was such a joy to welcome the bright and engaged students from Aviara Oaks Elementary in Carlsbad to the California State Capitol!
Their visit came during a particularly exciting time — the House of Origin deadline, when the State Assembly works hard to pass key legislation before sending it over to the Senate. These students got a front-row seat to see democracy in action!
Huge thanks to the incredible teachers, staff, and families who made this civic learning opportunity possible. We loved sharing the Capitol with you!
They Grow Up So Fast

I am so proud of Máté & Maya!
Máté graduated from high school! I couldn't be prouder of all he has achieved.
Maya is officially a high schooler! Her creativity is going to take her far!
Seeing you both grow up has been my greatest accomplishment. I'm so lucky you both chose me to be your mom.
It's a big season of change in our home—full of excitement, nostalgia, and so much love. To all the families going through milestones right now, I see you, and I'm wishing your loved ones the best!
Here's to new beginnings!
North County's Longest-Running Environmental Fair

I had a great day at EcoFest, North County's longest-running environmental fair! From upcycling crafts and student art made from litter to hands-on learning about reducing our carbon footprint — this event is all about inspiring a greener, healthier future for our community.
Five students from Encinitas elementary schools showcased their eco-themed art through the BCK eco-literacy program. And yes — I even took a spin in the "trash-nado," a fun and educational activity created by students to show how litter impacts our environment.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, participated in our recycled art station, and joined us in building a more sustainable tomorrow!
Land Donation Ceremony

Last month, Team Tasha had the honor of presenting a certificate of recognition to Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI) during their land donation ceremony with NRG Energy — a major milestone for ocean health and food security.
Thanks to NRG's generous donation of 6.6 acres of coastal land, HSWRI can expand its critical work in sustainable seafood production, marine species replenishment, and ecosystem restoration. This is the kind of collaboration we need to build a healthier, more sustainable future for our ocean and our communities.
It was a privilege to join Congressman Mike Levin, HSWRI President & CEO Don Kent, and their incredible team, including Chief Science Officer Dr. Danielle Haulsee, to celebrate this exciting moment.
Thank you to everyone making waves for marine science and sustainability!
Stephanie Lomakin

Congratulations to our District Intern, Stephanie Lomakin, for the completion of her internship with Team Tasha! Stephanie is a Political Science major with big plans—she's transferring to UCLA this fall and has her sights set on law school after earning her degree.
Fun Fact: When she's not diving into public policy, you'll find Stephanie camping under the stars and exploring the great outdoors.
We're so lucky to have her on Team Tasha this season!
Keep reaching for those goals, Stephanie — the future looks bright!
