From September 15th to October 15th, our country celebrates the histories and cultures of Latinos.
This past month, I was happy to spotlight the work of some incredible individuals in our district. These people have directly invested in and led positive changes in our district, and because of their contributions, we will continue to see our communities thrive.

California Attractions and Parks Association's 20th Anniversary
Congratulations to the California Attractions and Parks Association (CAPA) on reaching its 20th anniversary! Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber and I were happy to join CAPA for this special occasion and answer their questions about state government.
California's parks and attractions generate billions of dollars in our state's economy. This is only possible with the help of its members and workers.
Washington Elementary STEAM Magnet School Receives Education Grant
📚 One of my biggest priorities in the Assembly is to ensure that every child has access to quality education and the great opportunities that come with it. Now that I have been in the State Assembly for six years, I have developed a deep gratitude for the Barona Band of Mission Indians, and Chairman Raymond Welch for their commitment to supporting our communities. Their $5,000 education grant will support the unique educational opportunities of students at Washington Elementary STEAM Magnet School.
Ribbon Cutting: UC San Diego's Pepper Canyon West Student Housing
I'm thrilled to share that UC San Diego is making fantastic strides with the addition of 1,300 units of student housing! I was honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Pepper Canyon West alongside UCSD Chancellor Pradeep Khosla, Senator Catherine Blakespear, and other esteemed officials. This new housing, conveniently located next to public transportation, will alleviate traffic and enhance students' daily commute to and from school.
California Legislature Attacks High Gas Prices
Californians are tired of the price spikes at the gas pump.
Today, I joined my colleagues for the California Governor's signing of AB X2-1 by Assemblymember Gregg Hart, Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, and State Senator Nancy Skinner, a bill dedicated to helping Californians save money at the pump.

Assembly District 77: Fall 2024 Internship Program
My office is accepting applications for our Fall 2024 Internship Program, located at my District Office in Solana Beach. The internship is open to all individuals with an interest in learning more about state government and public service while building professional skills.
Interns will work as unpaid volunteers with flexible part-time hours. This role requires a three-month commitment, with flexible part-time hours and flexible start/end dates.

Assistance with 2024-2025 Property Taxes
Need assistance with your residential property taxes? The State Controllers' Office's (SCO) Property Tax Postponement (PTP) Program allows homeowners who are seniors and disabled to apply for a deferred payment of property taxes on their principal residence. California E-Bike Incentive Project
E-bikes do not only reduce pollution and congestion, but they are a sustainable and environmentally conscious mode of transportation. The California E-Bike Incentive Project is providing individuals and families up to $2,000 of point-of-sale incentives to support the purchase of a new e-bike! Register to Vote
The deadline to register to vote for any election is 15 days before Election Day, and the General Election is on Tuesday, November 5th. Your registration must be postmarked or submitted online by Monday, October 21st. For more information on who can register to vote and how to register, please visit California Secretary of State.
CalFresh Benefits for College Students
Students attending a higher education institution, such as a college, university, trade school, or technical school, can be eligible for CalFresh benefits. Students must be 18-49 and attend school more than half-time. If students qualify, they will be sent an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, which can be used like any other debit card at the grocery store. If students have questions about what is considered half-time, they should check in with their school.
CalKids - Children's College Savings Program
It is back-to-school season, and it is important to think about how you are saving for your child's future! CalKIDS was created to provide Californian children greater access to higher education institutions. Newborns and eligible low-income public school students may receive up to $1,500 in a CalKIDS account. This can help jumpstart your child's savings for college and career training!
REAL ID Deadline: May 7, 2025
By May 7, 2025, you will need a REAL ID to board domestic flights and access federal facilities. To apply, gather one proof of identity and two proofs of California Residency, complete the application at California Department of Motor Vehicles, and visit a DMV office. Be REAL ID ready!

California has three passes available to families to access our state's parks. Going outdoors could not be easier! Let's unplug from our digital devices and enjoy some fresh air.
Mental Health Apps for Families
There are two free mental health apps available to all children, youth, young adults, and families in California. BrightLife Kids and Soluna are two free apps to help families raise happy, healthy young minds. BrightLife Kids is for families whose children are 0-12 years old, and Soluna is for teens and young adults between ages 13-25.
