September is Emergency Preparedness Month, and I am hosting an exciting event with the Red Cross that will help you and your family prepare for an emergency. The event will take place at the Carlsbad City Library on Friday, September 27, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Being prepared is the key to keeping you and your families safe.

San Diego Community College District
The San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) is one of California's largest community college districts, serving about 80,000 students each year.
I recently met with SDCCD Chancellor Gregory Smith and Vice Chancellor of Development and Entrepreneurship Laurie Coskey to learn more about SDCCD's various programs and how career technical courses train our future workforce.
After graduation, 92% of SDCCD's students stay in the region, contributing $4.5 billion annually to our local economy!
Meeting with Caltrans and Coronado: Orange Ave. & SR 75
I had a very productive conversation with Caltrans District 11's Director, Everett Townsend, about pedestrian safety along Orange Avenue/State Route 75 in Coronado. I look forward to the continued collaboration between Caltrans District 11 and the City of Coronado to ensure we increase traffic safety and standardize the crosswalks for our district.
Fletcher Cove Celebrates 100 Years
Congratulations to the City of Solana Beach on the historic centennial anniversary of Fletcher Cove!
Since July 4, 2024, Fletcher Cove has provided community members with access to the beach. Team Tasha was happy to present Deputy Mayor Jewel Edson with a certificate commemorating the special occasion.

Ribbon Cutting: Del Mar Heights School
Congratulations to Del Mar Heights School on its ribbon cutting! The school has been redesigned to improve student safety and traffic flow. The new design will inspire students daily and foster a creative learning environment.

AB 2715 Signed by the Governor
AB 2715 was SIGNED ✓ by the Governor! Cyberattacks are on the rise and local agencies must be prepared for those risks. AB 2715 allows local governments to discuss cybersecurity concerns in private to address and prevent cyberattacks effectively.

Happy Latino Heritage Month! All month long, join me as I recognize incredible Latinos in AD 77 who are investing in our communities.
This week, I am spotlighting Manny Rodriguez, Chair of the City of San Diego's Downtown Community Planning Council.
Manny's resume is extensive. He serves as the Transportation and Planning Program Manager for City Heights Community Development Corporation, Executive Director for RideSD, and Co-Founder of Walk n' Roll San Diego. He also holds a leadership position in his neighborhood's Business Improvement District and volunteers for several organizations, including YIMBY, Bike San Diego, and Families for Safe Streets.
He encourages the organizations he is involved in to increase their diversity and fights for a safer community.

Assembly District 77: Fall 2024 Internship Program
My office is accepting applications for our Fall 2024 Internship Program, located at my District Office in Solana Beach. The internship is open to all individuals with an interest in learning more about state government and public service while building professional skills.
Interns will work as unpaid volunteers with flexible part-time hours. This role requires a three-month commitment, with flexible part-time hours and flexible start/end dates.

California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls: Youth Advisory Council
The California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls is seeking new members for their Youth Advisory Council. Girls between the ages of 14-20 will have the unique opportunity to shape public policy in California. Members will be asked to attend, virtually or in person in Sacramento, six meetings each year, approximately two hours each, and engage in approximately four hours of advocacy, outreach, or support each month. Applicants must live in California. The application deadline has been extended to Thursday, October 17.
Register to Vote
The deadline to register to vote for any election is 15 days before Election Day, and the General Election is on Tuesday, November 5th. Your registration must be postmarked or submitted online by Monday, October 21st. For more information on who can register to vote and how to register, please visit the California Secretary of State Website.
CalFresh Benefits for College Students
Students attending a higher education institution, such as a college, university, trade school, or technical school, can be eligible for CalFresh benefits. Students must be 18-49 and attend school more than half-time. If students qualify, they will be sent an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, which can be used like any other debit card at the grocery store. If students have questions about what is considered half-time, they should check in with their school.
CalKids - Children's College Savings Program
It is back-to-school season, and it is important to think about how you are saving for your child's future! CalKIDS was created to provide Californian children greater access to higher education institutions. Newborns and eligible low-income public school students may receive up to $1,500 in a CalKIDS account. This can help jumpstart your child's savings for college and career training!
REAL ID Deadline: May 7, 2025
By May 7, 2025, you will need a REAL ID to board domestic flights and access federal facilities. To apply, gather one proof of identity and two proofs of California Residency, complete the application on the California Department of Motor Vehicles website, and visit a DMV office. Be REAL ID ready!

There are two free mental health apps available to all children, youth, young adults, and families in California. BrightLife Kids and Soluna are two free apps to help families raise happy, healthy young minds.
