This week at the Capitol, we celebrated Nonprofits Day, and I was happy to recognize La Jolla Playhouse as our 2024 Nonprofit of the Year!
Since 1947, they have produced over 120 world premieres, sent 36 productions to Broadway, and earned 38 Tony Awards, including a Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. La Jolla Playhouse also encourages youth in our community to express themselves, keeping them engaged with the arts.
Join me in congratulating La Jolla Playhouse!
Cheers,
Assemblymember Tasha Boerner
Assemblymember, 77th District
P.S. My office is available every day to talk with you about your concerns or help connect you with resources. You can reach us at (858) 481-7704 or Assemblymember.Boerner@assembly.ca.gov.
Ensuring Children Have Access to Healthcare
This week, nonprofit advocates joined me to stop gaps in healthcare coverage for children ages 0-5 currently enrolled in Medi-Cal. This press conference comes after AB 2956, the Protecting Medi-Cal Coverage for Californians Act, was held in the Appropriations Committee. Thank you to the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California, the Western Center on Law & Poverty, and The Children's Partnership for working with me to ensure that families do not have to go without necessary health services.
AB 2715 Passes Senate Local Government
AB 2715 passed the Senate Committee on Local Government with unanimous and bipartisan support! Cyberattacks are on the rise, & local agencies must prepare for those risks. AB 2715 would allow local governments to discuss cybersecurity concerns in private to address and prevent cyberattacks effectively.
California Broadband Summit
The pandemic showed how many children do not have reliable internet connection at home. The image of a child sitting outside of a fast-food restaurant doing homework in 2020 was a wake-up call. As Chair of the Assembly Committee on Communications & Conveyance, I believe we can do better as a state and end the digital divide. I joined CalMatters' Ideas Festival to talk about ways California can ensure every resident has internet access.
California Nonprofits Day
Congratulations to La Jolla Playhouse for being the 77th Assembly District's Nonprofit of the Year! They are a jewel in San Diego and have contributed to the creative culture of the region. If you want to see what is next in the American theatre landscape, it is happening at La Jolla Playhouse!
Tour of Orange Avenue
I took a tour along Orange Avenue/California State Route 75 in Coronado to examine pedestrian and traffic safety. Thank you to City of Coronado and Coronado Mayor, Richard Bailey, for discussing how we can make the streets of Coronado safer for everyone!
Fight on to Victory Celebration
It was great to stop by the Fight on to Victory Celebration hosted by USS Midway and meet the incredible military leaders serving in our region. ROTC cadets from Vanderbilt University were also present for their summer leadership training. Thank you for your service!
EcoFest
I had the opportunity to participate in EcoFest, North County's longest-running environmental fair. This family-friendly event brought together businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and other organizations, showcasing the best ways to go green! It is always a pleasure to attend!
