On Friday, the Assembly Appropriations Committee held its Suspense Hearing—where lawmakers decide the fate of bills that cost the state more than $150,000. This hearing helps determine which bills will move forward in the legislative process and which ones will be held in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

2025 Nonprofit of the Year

Each year, California Assemblymembers and State Senators recognize nonprofits from their district for their work to provide services to those in need, promote social change, and improve the quality of life in their communities.
This year, I am thrilled to honor the San Diego Botanic Garden as AD 77's 2025 Nonprofit of the Year!
The Garden is a beautiful urban oasis spanning over 37 acres and featuring more than 5,000 plant species. For decades, the Garden has been a treasured space in our community—connecting people to nature, inspiring environmental stewardship, and promoting education and conservation.
I am so proud to celebrate the nonprofit's long-lasting impact on preserving the natural beauty of our region and sharing the world with us.
Bills That Passed Assembly Appropriations

I am happy to report that these Tasha B. Specials passed Assembly Appropriations!
The Assembly Appropriations Committee maintains a Suspense File, where bills that may cost more than $150,000 in the California State Assembly will either proceed in the legislative process or be held in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

C-SPAN 21st Annual StudentCam Film Competition

Devin Mingardi, Vincent Chase, & Wesley Robson, 7th & 8th-grade students from Community Montessori, were honored in C-SPAN's 21st annual StudentCam film competition!
Out of 1,700 entries by nearly 3,500 students from 42 states and Washington, D.C., these students received an honorable mention for their documentary, The Price of Life: America's Healthcare Crisis.
StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual documentary competition, inviting students to dive deep into pressing national issues. This year's theme was "Your Message to the President: What issue is most important to you or your community?"
Congratulations on this incredible recognition!
Honoring Mexican Sculptor Jose Sacal

Team Tasha had the privilege of visiting "Maestro Sacal," a powerful exhibition honoring the life and legacy of renowned Mexican sculptor SACAL.
Hosted by the UC San Diego Extension Center in partnership with the Consulado de México en San Diego, this exhibit beautifully highlights Sacal's unique artistic vision and enduring impact on contemporary Mexican art.
Thank you to our partners for bringing this cultural treasure to our region and for fostering the binational connections that make our community so vibrant.
If you have the chance, I encourage you to stop by and experience this incredible tribute.
