Assemblymember Tasha BoernerMay is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!

This month, we honor the rich history, diverse cultures, and meaningful contributions of AAPI communities here in California and across the nation. From public service to the arts, from science to small business, AAPI individuals have shaped our shared story in countless ways.

Let's take this opportunity to celebrate, uplift, and stand in solidarity with our AAPI neighbors—not just this month, but all year long. When we recognize the strength in our diversity, we build a stronger, more vibrant California for everyone.

Cheers,

CAPITOL HIGHLIGHTS

Affordable Home Internet Passes Assembly Communications & Conveyance

ad77 Affordable Home Internet Passes Assembly Communications and Conveyance

AB 353, my bill on Affordable Home Internet, passed out of Assembly Communications & Conveyance!

I want to thank my colleagues on the Assembly Communications and Conveyance Committee who supported this bill and Speaker Robert Rivas for making this a priority bill for his affordability package.

Broadband affordability is not an urban versus rural issue, nor does it have to be a partisan issue. We all should agree that broadband is an essential service that must be affordable for all.

My legislative package is moving forward!

Team Tasha is moving legislation forward to build a healthier, more equitable future for all. Here's what we're working on:

  • AB 87 — Prioritizing affordable housing over hotels in Density Bonus developments.

  • AB 823 — Banning toxic microbeads in personal care and cleaning products to protect our health and environment.

  • AB 968 — Expanding access to non-hormonal birth control right at your local pharmacy.

  • AB 1102 — Requiring developers to assess sea level and groundwater rise risks near vulnerable sites.

Team Tasha Supports Sexual Assault Survivors

Team Tasha proudly wears denim in solidarity with survivors for Denim Day. Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a powerful reminder that we must uplift survivors, believe their stories, and work together to end sexual violence. Together, we can build a safer world for everyone.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined me and I Love A Clean San Diego for one of the largest community cleanups in the region!

At Ocean Beach – Dog Beach, we had over 50 passionate volunteers show up to protect our coast as part of the 23rd Annual Countywide Cleanup.

Together with volunteers at 70+ sites across the region, we made a powerful impact.

We only have one planet — and it's up to all of us to take care of it.

Big shoutout to every single person who rolled up their sleeves and showed up for our environment. You're making a real difference!

100 years of service, leadership, and legacy!

Congratulations to the Woman's Club of Carlsbad on a century of empowering women and strengthening our community!

Since 1925, these incredible women have been a driving force in Carlsbad—from donating land for our city's first fire station to supporting local schools and advocating for women's rights. Their impact is woven into the very fabric of our city.

Thank you for a century of compassion, civic action, and fierce dedication. Here's to the next 100 years of shaping a brighter future!

ASIAN AMERICAN & PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH

Malinee Churanakoses Kukkonen

ad77 Malinee Churanakoses Kukkonen

This Asian American, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I'm proud to recognize Malinee Churanakoses Kukkonen, a passionate community builder and vibrant voice in Assembly District 77.

After moving to Solana Beach without knowing a soul, Malinee turned a challenge into connection—launching the "Residents of Solana Beach" Facebook page, now a hub for thousands of neighbors sharing local events and resources. She's also the creator and host of "Mornings with Malinee," a YouTube series that spotlights local changemakers and community groups, strengthening ties across the city one conversation at a time.

Beyond her digital community work, Malinee is a model, actor, and dedicated small business advocate who brings creativity and care to everything she does. Her work reminds us of the power of showing up, sharing stories, and building bridges.

Thank you, Malinee, for all you do to make Solana Beach—and our district—a more connected, inclusive, and inspired place to live.
