Assemblymember Tasha BoernerThe American Cancer Society estimates that 310,720 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. While this number is scary, remember early detection can save lives.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I want to highlight the importance of self-examination and talking to your doctor.

There are so many wonderful organizations spreading breast cancer awareness. To learn more, visit the American Cancer Society.

Cheers,

Our final honoree for Latino Heritage Month is Harid "H." Puentes!

As a freshman in high school, he earned perfect scores in math. His teachers were impressed with his potential but never told him he could find a well-paying job in STEM. Now, as a father of two, he wants them to know that their potential is limitless.

He founded San Diego Squared with Bill Rasetetter, a 30-year veteran in San Diego biotechnology and venture capital fields, to increase diversity in STEM careers among underrepresented students.
