As Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs are being removed across the country and monthly heritage celebrations are disappearing from our calendars, it is more important than ever to honor the diverse leaders in our community.
Our diversity is our strength. Join me throughout this month in recognizing local leaders in celebration of Black History Month.
Cheers,

Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute

Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI) is leading efforts in marine conservation, focusing on boosting the White Seabass population to combat climate change, habitat degradation, and pollution.
Right now, they are dedicated to boosting the White Seabass population through innovative research and hatchery practices, all aimed at fostering a vibrant marine ecosystem.
Their "Seabass in the Classroom" program allows students to gain hands-on experience in aquaculture by raising and releasing juvenile White Seabass back into the ocean. Currently engaging 13 schools across Orange, Los Angeles, and San Diego counties, this initiative is inspiring future marine protectors!
Big applause to HSWRI for their dedication to sustainable fisheries and marine conservation!
BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT |
Fire Chief Robert Logan

This Black History Month, we proudly celebrate Fire Chief Robert Logan, a trailblazer in public service and community leadership!
A native San Diegan, Chief Logan was inspired to become a firefighter by the very station he grew up near. Since joining San Diego Fire Rescue in 2000, he has risen through the ranks to become the department's 19th fire chief—and only the third African American to hold this position in its 134-year history. His leadership extends beyond emergency response; he has championed diversity, equity, and inclusion, co-founded Lincoln High School's Fire Technology Program, and brought San Diego its first Firefighter Pre-Apprenticeship EMT program. A dedicated educator, researcher, and mentor, he continues to shape the future of fire service while advocating for underserved communities.
Join us in honoring Chief Logan's extraordinary service and impact!
