Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath

__SALUTATION__

Assemblymember Tasha Boerner HorvathThis week we have voted on hundreds of bills!

A few highlights include voting in favor of:

  • Transparency and reducing the profit motive in sober living homes, helping to identify the bad actors.
  • Strengthening our public education system, while ensuring great performing charter schools can still positively contribute to addressing our kids' educational needs.
  • Reforming police practices to increase trust and safety between law enforcement and California communities

All of these bills will go to the Senate, where policy committee will improve them. They will then go to the Senate floor and if they change, they will come back for approval by the Assembly before heading to the Governor's Desk to be signed into law.

Fun and exciting times!

Cheers,

Weekly Highlights in the District

  • In honor of Memorial Day, I joined Oceanside’s Elk Lodge Post 1516 and American Legion Post 416 at their ceremonies to remember and honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country.
    Planned Parenthood Rally

  • On Sunday, I spent time at the annual Vista Strawberry Festival hosted in celebration of Vista’s community and agricultural heritage. I enjoyed the pie-eating contest, music, strawberry inspired dishes and the special crafts on sold by local vendors.
    Planned Parenthood Rally
  • I joined Governor Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, along with fellow federal and state leaders, in support of reproductive health and a women's right to make choices about her body. I am proud to be in California where Governor Newsom has committed $100 million to expand access to reproductive healthcare.
    Planned Parenthood Rally

  • I attended the annual Stakeholder's Day at Guajome Park Academy in Vista and presented a resolution in celebration of Guajome Park Academy 25th Anniversary. For over two decades, educators, school administrators, business partners, students, and parents at Guajome Park have worked together to create academic spaces that are student-focused, innovative, and designed for students to succeed.

  • Field Representative Fernando Hernandez attended the commencement ceremony for the first class of Mira Costa College Biomanufacturing Degree students. Mira Costa is one of only fifteen community colleges in California to offer a bachelor’s degree.
  • Field Representative Carol Waldman attended the Cardiff State Beach Living Shoreline dedication ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Living Shoreline Project which is designed to help protect Highway 101 against coastal flooding by utilizing the landscape like coastal sand dunes to act as a natural barrier.
Weekly Highlights from Sacramento

  • AB 1731, my bill to appropriately regulate how long short-term vacation rental platforms may rent a unit where the primary resident is not onsite in San Diego County’s coastal zone, passed out of the Assembly on a 42-23, bipartisan vote!  This is the first bill to regulate STVR platforms like Airbnb to pass out of the house of origin.
    Planned Parenthood Rally
  • AB 931, my bill to increase women's representation on local boards and commissions, also passed out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Thursday and passed out of the Assembly on a 54-18, bipartisan vote!
  • AB 1314, a bill I have co-authored to reform the Cal Grant Program by removing age limitations for recipients and allowing Cal Grants to be used for books and cost of living in addition to tuition, passed the Assembly last week on a 63-0 vote! This bill is especially important for our veterans who may serve multiple tours of duty and previously could have aged out of Cal Grant eligibility.
