Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath

__SALUTATION__

It has been a busy few months since I was sworn into the Assembly, and we hit the ground running! I introduced 16 bills focused on sustainability, opportunity and equality – the key priorities in our district, held our community swearing-in ceremony, attended a number of local meetings and events, and my team and I have been meeting with community groups throughout the district. Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to represent you and our district in Sacramento!

Some of the highlights from our work so far include:

  • Serving on the Assembly Leadership Team as the Assistant Majority Whip – Thank you Speaker Anthony Rendon!
  • Serving on my committees: Veterans Affairs, Aging and Long-Term Care, Communications and Conveyance, Local Government, and the Joint Legislative Audit.
  • Forming and serving as the Chair of the Select Committee on Sea Level Rise and the California Economy to ensure that we move from studies and discussion to concrete actions to address the issues of climate change, especially in our coastal districts like ours.
  • Working to protect the environment and stopping climate change, including authoring bills to expand our electric vehicle fast-charging network, increase safe rail crossings active transportation, increase demand for renewable energy and protect open space at San Onofre State Beach.
  • Creating opportunities to achieve the California Dream by authoring bills to support our veterans with education funding extensions; ensure that homelessness, veteran transition services, and mental and behavioral health services are supporting our communities; and address high rent prices and housing affordability so that our friends, seniors, and children can afford to live in the place they call home.
  • Authoring two bills focused on gender equity, including AB467: Equal Pay for Equal Pay, which will ensure male and female athletes receive equal compensation prizes for athletic contests on public lands.
  • Working to support the thousands of homeless kids in our district through co-authoring bills to ensure our school districts have the resources they need to coordinate services with cities and counties for homeless students.
  • Approving an audit of how we fund our local schools to ensure that our taxpayer money is ending up where it is supposed to go – with our kids!
And we’re just getting started!

In April we will start our District Advisory Councils to discuss the impact of key bills in our district. In May we will be doing Community Gatherings in every city in the district and in summer we will host a Townhall.

In the meantime, my staff and I are out in every corner of the district. If you have an event where you would like me to address or speak, please email my District Director, Katie Sadd.

ICYMI:

In case you missed it… In February, I held my local swearing-in ceremony in Encinitas. With over 150 community members and elected officials in attendance, it was a great opportunity to share how my office is working on behalf of our communities and how we are making sustainability, opportunity, and equity/equality our top priorities.

Cheers,
